Marcus Peterzell

Marcus Peterzell has a rich and diverse background, covering over 20 years in the entertainment industry. Peterzell started in concert promotion out of college where he planned the marketing of over 50 high profile concert events for artists such as Billy Joel, Peter Frampton, Linda Ronstadt, Genesis, Chicago, Doobie Brothers and Tom Petty. Peterzell then moved into television developing and producing numerous music based network and cable TV series and specials for outlets including Cinemax, Lifetime, USA, Viacom, CBS, MTV and A&E. Peterzell went on to hold executive marketing and business affairs positions at various record labels including TVT, Fiction/Elektra, and Ignition/Tommy Boy which he co-founded.  At Fiction Peterzell served as U.S. manager for The Cure, where he represented the group for four platinum records and a sold out North America tour which was turned into a feature film which Peterzell executive produced. In 1994 after The Cure announced a hiatus, Peterzell joined Music Marketing Network as SVP of sales/marketing where he helped create and monetize the largest opt-in database of music buyers and created new digital marketing solutions for the music business which he sold into all of the major record labels. Peterzell was instrumental in the sale of Music Marketing to 24/7 Media where Peterzell served in the same capacity for the entertainment group.
In 2001, Peterzell joined MusicVision where he served as VP of the direct marketing group and then SVP of Marketing and Sales. At MusicVison Peterzell supervised the music and content licensing initiatives for core client Nokia which included developing a new business model for creating and monetizing artist controlled  content in the form of mobile graphics for artist’s including Coldplay, The Doors, Avrial Lavigne, Outkast, and Alanis Morissette. Peterzell also negotiated one of the first mobile preload content deals on behalf of Nokia with all four of the major label groups.
In 2004 Peterzell was recruited by Omnicom and named co-president of their leading entertainment marketing agency AWE (merged into GMR to form GMR Entertainment in 2007). Peterzell oversaw the agencies sales and marketing efforts supervising key accounts including Time-Warner Cable, Philip Morris, Jagermeister, The History Channel, Philips Electronics and Dial. In addition to overseeing the agencies 22 member account team in seven offices, Peterzell created three new service offerings for the agency. The first, partnership marketing, offered record labels and publishers strategic marketing services including brand artist partnerships and developing new platforms to monetize their content in the digital arena. Clients in this division included Atlantic Records, Interscope Records, Virgin Records and Universal Records. The second, digital licensing provides content acquisition services for online and mobile content aggregators with access to unique digital content from both record labels and artists. Clients included ModTones, WiderThan/Real Networks, Ikoncity, JC Penny.com, Nokia, Virgin Mobile, and Flycell. The third offering is new media consulting where digital services companies are provided with business strategy including developing new revenue models and business development tactics.  Clients in this vertical included Brickfish, ReverbNation, GenAudio, Hip-Digital, MediaDefender/Artist Direct and Yangaroo. In order to service the new verticals on a global basis Peterzell expanded the agencies footprint by opening up offices in London, Paris and Bejing. Under Peterzell’s guidance GMR Entertainment tripled in revenue, doubled its staff and won numerous awards for client programs.
Peterzell has spoken at over a dozen high profile industry and trade events, and was a featured speaker at both last year’s “What Teens Want” and Billboards/CES “Digital Insights” conferences. Peterzell has also served as chairman of T.J Martells Family Day event, the charities’ largest annual fund raiser having raised over 5 million dollars for cancer research. In the past nine years the event has honored high profile industry leaders including five record label presidents and for 2009, the events 10th anniversary, the Martell board honored Peterzell and his family.
